The west coast of the United States of America includes California.  Agriculture in California accounts for 11% of the nation’s farm income.  They produce more than 200 commercial crops and in about 50 of these lead the nation.  Examples of leading crops include grapes, hay, cotton, sugar beets, potatoes and rice.  The states agricultural strength is based on a long growing season and irrigation of which it has the largest system in the nation.  More than

80% of the water used is consumed by farms.  California is seeing evidence of salt water intrusion into the estuaries and river systems in the Central Valley.  This is being caused by the significant fresh water diversion from the rivers into the irrigation systems.

Southern California growth is becoming water controlled.  The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California has estimated a need for 1,000,000 acre feet per year of additional potable water for the next 20 years.  They are expecting 50% from desalination of seawater.  The osmosis filtering plants, which depend on fossil and nuclear fuel energy, require about 8 megawatts for each 10,000 acre feet of water produced.  The cost for water produced with this energy is enormous and the available electrical power is already insufficient to service the customers of this state.  The Ocean Motion Combined Energy System with zero consumption of electrical power will be a windfall for the communities that take advantage of it.

The entire coastline has consistent waves with some of the best at major population centers.

Los Angeles - population nearly 4 million - waves 6 to 8 feet

San Diego - population nearly 2 million - waves 6 to 8 feet
