Mexico

The mineral resources of this country are extremely rich and varied, coal, iron ore, phosphates, uranium, silver, gold, copper, lead and zinc.  Proven oil and natural gas reserves are enormous; some of the world’s largest offshore rigs are in the Bay of Campeche.  Forests of mahogany, ebony, walnut and rosewood cover about 23% of the land.  About 13% of the land is suitable for agriculture but less than 10% receives enough rainfall for raising crops without irrigation.  The government policies have made

economic growth a predominant objective with movement to a semi-industrialized nation.  Mexico needs water for both the population and it’s agriculture.  Obtaining financing for OMI projects in this country could be a challenge.  Two large cities on the Mexican coasts provide excellent locations with wave heights of 3 to 8 feet.

Acapulco:      with a population of over 400,000, it is know as the Mexican Riviera.  Major tourist destination with luxury hotels, gambling casinos, excellent beaches.  Seaport exports cotton, tropical fruits, sugar cane, coffee, tobacco and sesame seed.  Wave heights range from 6 to 8 feet.

Veracruz:       with a population of over 300,000, is is an important petroleum producing region.  Also a major seaport, commercial and manufacturing center.  Wave heights of 3 to 5 feet.
